November Update: Listening & Learning
November Update:
- Behind-the-scenes work is underway to clarify systems, introduce new tools, and establish new staff values.
- Matt continues learning Parkview’s systems and getting to know the staff and their roles.
- The pastoral staff held an offsite on 11/20 to identify priorities for the next 12–24 months—focusing on what matters most in this season.
- In November, we held two unique worship services (11/2, 11/9) by changing the chair setup and the overall Sunday morning format. This offered a glimpse of the flexibility—and hopefully creativity—to come. We will never change just for change’s sake, but these were strong examples of a vision and value leading us to try something new.
- Podcast Episode 3 has been recorded.
- January will launch a new series on leading faithfully through transition and stepping into new seasons—relevant both for Parkview and for anyone starting something new in the new year.

How did Parkview choose Andy to be our Next Lead Pastor?
The Parkview elders initially chose to focus on internal candidates for the Lead Pastor role, and Andy emerged as a strong contender. They partnered with the national search firm Shepherd’s Staff to conduct an initial evaluation, which included multiple interviews (including one with Andy’s wife, Brittany), assessment tests, and an all-day, in-person meeting. After Shepherd’s Staff recommended Andy as a viable candidate, the process moved to the Elder Board. The board then conducted four additional interviews with Andy, each addressing a different area of evaluation. Brittany was also interviewed by an elder, and staff members were invited to share feedback on Andy’s abilities, character, strengths, and areas for growth.
The elders concluded that Andy was an ideal fit for Parkview in this next season and extended a call for him to serve as the next Lead Pastor. In accordance with the church constitution, the congregation then voted to affirm this decision—a vote that passed unanimously.
Who is Andy?
Andy has been part of Parkview for ten years, first as High School Pastor and the last six years as Teaching Pastor. He is married to Brittany and they have two young boys, Benjamin and William. Andy loves helping people see familiar Bible passages in a fresh way and is passionate about the local church. He is an Enneagram 5, if that means anything to you. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, going to baseball games, and exploring Chicago.
When is this transition intended to take place?
In January of 2026, Pastor Ray will pass the baton to Andy to become Parkview’s next Lead Pastor.
Ray will transition to Pastor Emeritus: What is a Pastor Emeritus?
Our term emeritus comes from the Latin verb emereri, meaning “to serve out one’s term.” It was originally used to describe soldiers who had completed their tour of duty. Today, the term is used by organizations and churches as an honorary title bestowed on someone in recognition of distinguished service. In many cases, the Pastor Emeritus continues to serve in their church, often through teaching, writing, or mentoring.
What is Ray hoping to do more or less of?
Ray hopes to continue teaching / speaking but also to pursue other interests such as writing and peace-making – not to mention spending more time with family. Parkview will remain Ray and Margie’s church home.
What does this mean for Parkview’s future? What will change? What will stay the same?
God’s work is never dependent on one person. Parkview remains committed to our mission of teaching and following the way of Jesus in and for the sake of our world—valuing Relationship over Religion, Grace over Guilt, Compassion over Complacency, Unity over Uniformity, and Curiosity over Certainty.
Over the next few months, Andy will work closely with the staff to identify key ministry priorities. This will include both behind-the-scenes work with our team and intentional focus on our ministry efforts with the congregation. While the core heart and values of Parkview will not change—one of the key benefits of Andy being an internal candidate—we will remain open to fresh ideas and new approaches. This may mean adjusting programs, exploring new ministry opportunities, and shifting roles as Parkview discerns where God is leading us in the next season.
How can we be praying?
For Pastor Ray – That he would finish strong, find deep joy in reflecting on 31 years of ministry, and receive clarity for what God has next for him and his family.
For Our Staff – That they would navigate this season of change with grace, unity, and a renewed sense of calling.
For Andy – That he would clearly discern God’s direction for Parkview and become fully immersed in the life and rhythms of our ministry.
For Our Church Family – That God would stir fresh ideas, renew our vision, and guide us by His Spirit into the next chapter of our shared mission.
Is Parkview hiring an executive pastor?
Yes!
We are hiring an Executive Pastor to partner with Andy in leading the staff and overseeing the operations of Parkview. The work of the church extends far beyond Sunday preparation—it includes managing finances, facilities, human resources, and staff development. Andy is seeking a gifted leader who is both passionate and skilled in these areas, allowing him to focus on vision casting, caring for our staff and congregation, and guiding our services—especially in the area of teaching.
To help with this process, we have contracted with Shepherd’s Staff and are currently conducting interviews to discern the right person for this important role.
What is Andy doing now?
Andy is currently in the “listening tour” phase of the transition. Over the next six months, he is intentionally listening—listening to God for the future and direction of Parkview, to Pastor Ray as he shares decades of insight and history, to the staff about their roles, passions, and areas for growth, and to the congregation about their hopes and dreams for what God might do next.
Phase two begins in January… stay tuned!
How can Parkview help support this transition?
We want you to stay connected and engaged as Parkview steps into this next season. Read your emails, join us at church on Sundays, come to vision nights, and watch for the monthly podcast—this page is your one stop shop for updates–even after January of 2026!
As far as posture goes, be patient, ask questions, and stay curious about what God is doing. Be open to the future, and continue to be generous with your time and resources so we can set Parkview up to flourish in the season ahead. Together, we will live out the way of Jesus for the sake of the world.
