December 1: ASJ representative-(A More Just Society), Honduras
https://www.asj-us.org/

ASJ: We Are For a More Just Society.

We strive to be brave Christians, dedicated to doing justice in Honduras and to inspiring others around the world to seek justice in their own contexts.

To do this we:

Collaborate with, learn from, and advocate alongside our partner organization ASJ-Honduras to promote peace, justice, and the transformation of society and government in Honduras.

Share our experience in Honduras with communities of justice seekers in order to learn together and advance best practices in justice work worldwide.

Challenge and inspire Christians to live out the Biblical call to do justice and to effect change in their own communities.

October 6: Kevin Taylor-UR Chicago Alliance
https://urchicagoalliance.org

“I want to see families resurrecting out of poverty, owning their own homes and businesses, making disciples of their children, and becoming contributors to their community and to the local church. This is what it means for us as an organization to succeed. This is what it means for Chicago to succeed.” – Kevin Taylor, Native of Cabrini Green Projects and Program Director of UR Chicago

What is UR Chicago Alliance (URCA) and how it is impacting Chicagoland’s poverty and violence?

We’ve always just accepted Chicago and its segregated communities as a way of life. Have we thought about how we became so segregated? Redlining (the illegal practice of discriminating against people of color as it relates to lending and housing) resulting in creation of ghettos and concentrated poverty. We’ve all learned that when you have concentrated poverty it breeds violence.

URCA was created with the heart to engage in these divested communities, uniting churches, businesses, and socially responsible stakeholders to help provide access to living wage opportunities (Jobs) and bring a network of caring communities together to help address poverty and violence in our city.

November 3: Simone Halpin-Naomi House, DuPage County
www.naomishouse.org

Simone Halpin is the Executive Director and co-founder of Naomi’s House. Naomi’s House (NH) began in 2016 after years of preparing and researching the best way to serve Survivors of commercial sexual exploitation. The field to offer Survivors the best resources with trauma-informed, comprehensive, and faith-based services was narrow. NH created a model over five years that went from serving five women annually through residential services to hundreds of women annually in multiple programs across the Chicagoland area. Simone has served on the staff of The Moody Church since 2010. She is a 2008 graduate of Moody Theological Seminary (MS in Biblical Studies) and a doctoral student at Wheaton College pursuing a Doctor of Ministry. Simone and her husband, Anthony, reside in Wheaton with their four children.
