Pajama Time: A Collection Drive Benefiting ECFA
Each year, over 250,000 children enter the child welfare system in the United States.
Evangelical Child and Family Agency, ECFA for short, is a local organization working hard to combat this number. They serve intact families to prevent children from entering foster care, while also welcoming children in need of adoptive homes into loving families.
As for the Church, both throughout the Old Testament and with the birth of the New Testament Church, we see God’s heart on display for orphaned children and His desire to see His followers provide them care. At Parkview, we’re looking to take steps into this biblical call.
Join us in a collection drive to resource the families served by ECFA.
We will be collecting brand NEW:
Children’s pajamas (size 6month – 14)
Diapers (size 1-6).
So why these items?
For the vast majority of kids in the child welfare system, their families did not end up involved with DCFS because of a lack of love for their children, but due to a lack of resources – whether coping skills, familiar support, or financial means – and sometimes, a lot of the time, all of the above.
Addressing these needs – even through something as small as assisting with the expense of diapers and clothing – can increase a family’s ability to thrive. Through books, this is also an opportunity for us to equip parents to foster strong, nurturing relationships with their kids. Not only does reading to kids develop language skills, it also strengthens the child-parent bond!
And why NEW items?
Because this is an opportunity for us to send a powerful message to kids and parents. ECFA caseworkers have told us most of the children they serve get hand-me-downs and second-hand clothing. When they receive something new with tags, it says, “You are worthy, and you are valued.”
