13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:13-16
1) What do you typically think of when you hear the word “Holiness?”
2) Of the three “holiness struggles,” which one do you resonate with most?
The Holiness Struggle:
• We see holiness as an obligatory, legalistic expectation of the Christian faith vs. holiness as rooted in our identity as God’s chosen children and a reflection of God’s character.
• We allow the here and now to block our view of the eternal
• We cave to our sinful desires as humans vs. allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify us
3) What would it look like if you were “set apart” in these ways?
Your willingness to forgive, and ask for forgiveness
How you use your power, privilege, and status
Your sexual ethic
How you use your money
Your kindness towards your enemy
Your integrity at the office and commitment to honesty
The way you speak
Your absence of anger and bitterness
