Message Summary

One of the most important and elusive aspects of the Christian faith is the art of discernment.  Our culture says if you aren’t for me then you are against me.

Engaging the Word

What stood out to you in the message? What did you relate to? What did you not understand? Any new insight you are taking away?

Read Ephesians 4:1-16

  1. Based on these verses, what are the main points as it relates to unity?
  2. Why, do you think, does the author (Paul) have such a focus on oneness and unity? What do you know about Paul’s past that might encourage this emphasis on unity?
  3. This passage talks about some of the spiritual gifts. What are the gifts listed? What is the relationship between spiritual gifts and unity?

Engaging the Heart

  1.  What does it look like to prioritize unity over individuality?
  2. How have you seen disunity among followers of Jesus? What were some of the results of this disunity?
  3. What is the relationship between maturity in faith and unity? Why do you think this is so?

Engaging our World

Discuss with your group: What is one practical thing you can do to help promote unity among other followers of Jesus (even the ones you don’t agree with)?

Close your time by praying together.

Jesus loves people who the world says are unlovable.  No matter who we are or what we’ve done, Jesus loves us and chooses us.

Engaging the Word

What stood out to you in the message? What did you relate to? What did you not understand? Any new insight you are taking away?

Read Luke 19:1-10

  1. What do you learn about Zacchaeus from these verses?
  2. Why do you think Jesus reached out to Zacchaeus?
  3. How did Zacchaeus respond to Jesus? How did the other people in the story respond?
  4. What do you learn about Jesus from his interaction with Zacchaeus?

Engaging the Heart

  1. What emotions do you experience when you consider that Jesus chose you?
  2. What barriers are there for you or how do you resist this idea of being chosen? Share if you are comfortable.
  3. How do you respond to the idea of Jesus choosing you?

Engaging our World

Michael Chitwood gave a very specific call to action, a call to be Chosen.  Spend some time sharing how the message impacted you and what you did with Michael’s call to action.

Greetings,

On August 26, 2021, IL Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an Executive Order mandating that masks be worn at all indoor gatherings. Although churches are exempt from the Executive Order, out of respect for governing authorities, Parkview has continued to ask staff, leaders, volunteers, and those attending Sunday gatherings to wear a mask while indoors. We are grateful for our people’s understanding and willingness to do so. The Governor recently indicated that his Executive Order will be rescinded on Monday, February 28th making masks no longer required in most indoor settings. In anticipation of that, on Sunday, February 27th Parkview will return to a “mask optional” policy.

While the mask policy has once again shifted, our commitment to your health and wellbeing has not. We remain dedicated to thoroughly cleaning our public spaces before and after our gatherings. Masks and hand sanitizer are still readily available to those who want them.

Navigating these difficult days has not always been clear or easy. Whatever your perspective on current realities, as fellow Christians, let us allow kindness, grace and compassion characterize our interaction and relationships. In the words of the Apostle Paul, “Let us be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

I look forward to being with you on Sundays.

Grace and Peace,
