Our Values

About

Parkview is a great place to build lifelong relationships, receive care and support, and thrive in your relationship with God. Learn more about our values and meet the team below.

Parkview Distinctives

Distinctives are the things that make Parkview just a little unique in our area. There are many wonderful churches in DuPage county that are faithfully advancing the Kingdom of God and helping people know and love Jesus. We celebrate that! But every church has its own particular way of living out the mission of Jesus. These differences aren’t about “better” or “worse”—they’re simply the values, practices, or perspectives that shape our ministry and community life.

Here are four of ours:

Men & Women in All Levels of Leadership

We affirm the God-given gifts of both men and women in ministry, creating space for all to serve and lead while valuing unity over uniformity.

A Commitment to Justice

We seek to love, welcome, and stand with the marginalized, reflecting God’s heart that all people be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect.

Financial Integrity

We steward resources with transparency and accountability, using rigorous safeguards to ensure every gift advances the mission of Jesus.

A Teaching Team Approach

We intentionally share the preaching ministry across diverse voices, giving away pastoral authority and blessing the church with a variety of perspectives.

Men & Women in All Levels of Leadership

We believe the Bible celebrates and affirms the gifts of both men and women in ministry. While some passages in Scripture appear to limit women’s leadership, we understand those as being tied to specific cultural and situational contexts in the early church. For example, in 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy, we see Paul addressing unique circumstances within particular congregations—not setting a universal standard for all times and places.

Our conviction is that the broader tone of Scripture is one of unity, mutual submission, and the use of all God-given gifts—regardless of gender—to serve the church. That said, we recognize this is not an core belief for following Jesus, and there are people in our church family who hold a complementarian view (seeing distinct roles for men and women) yet worship, serve, and thrive here. We value unity over uniformity, and we see differences in this area as an opportunity for grace, understanding, and a richer expression of the Body of Christ.

A Commitment to Justice

At Parkview, we have a deep commitment to justice—caring for, seeing, loving, and welcoming those who are marginalized in our communities. We believe the Gospel is truly for all people, and we want to embody the hands and feet of Jesus to everyone around us.

While “justice” may be a buzzword in our culture, our conviction is far from shallow platitudes or performative. It is not about political alignment or virtue signaling—it is about the heart of God. Scripture teaches that every person is created by God, deeply loved by Him, and invited into a relationship with Him. Because of this, we believe all people deserve kindness, dignity, and respect.

Our pursuit of justice is an expression of the Gospel itself—joining Jesus in His work of restoration and reconciliation in a broken world.

Uncompromising Financial Integrity

We take seriously the responsibility of stewarding the resources entrusted to us. We understand the tremendous power money holds, and we want to handle it with transparency, accountability, and integrity—always being above reproach.

Our commitment includes several safeguards: an annual external audit, use of a third-party HR reporting agency for staff accountability, offsite accounting separate from church staff, publicly available financial reports, and certification with the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). In addition, our elder board provides consistent oversight.

We believe that every dollar given is a gift from God through the generosity of His people, and we strive to use those resources faithfully to advance the mission of Jesus.

A Teaching Team Approach

We believe we are at our best when we learn from a diversity of voices. That’s why we intentionally give opportunities for multiple members of our staff to teach. This is not simply a “fill-in” approach—there is careful thought behind who teaches, when they teach, and what topics or texts they take on. We could easily have one or two people do all the preaching, but we believe that would be unhealthy for the church.

Our Approach:

  1. Develops our staff by helping them grow and refine their gifts.
  2. Ensures the church is never centered around a single person or speaking style.
  3. Blesses the congregation with a variety of perspectives—because different voices connect with different people.
  4. Intentionally gives away pastoral authority, modeling that leadership is a shared responsibility and not held by one individual alone.
  5. Lightens the load for senior leaders while modeling shared ministry.

Our Process

Every week, our teaching team gathers for Preaching Camp—an intentional time to collaborate, sharpen ideas, and encourage one another in the preaching ministry. The core members of the Preaching team are Carlos, Christina, Ray, and Andy, though all staff are given opportunities to teach.

Preaching Camp has several key elements:

  • Debrief Last Week’s Message – We give constructive, grace-filled feedback on the previous Sunday’s sermon, celebrating what was effective and noting areas that could be strengthened.
  • Help with This Week’s Message – We walk through the upcoming sermon, offering insight on sections that might need clarity, refinement, or strengthening.
  • Look Two Weeks Ahead – The communicator for that week brings challenges or questions, such as tricky passages, illustrations, structure, or application ideas. The team works together to strengthen these areas.

While Preaching Camp is the weekly rhythm, our collaboration extends further:

  • Manuscript Review – We share sermon manuscripts and provide feedback, highlighting what’s strong and flagging what might be confusing for listeners.
  • Series Brainstorming – We dedicate sessions to dreaming ahead, bouncing ideas for upcoming sermon series, themes, and outlines. These sessions are high-energy and creative.
  • All Preachers Camp (Quarterly) – Every few months, the whole teaching team gathers for training on topics that help us grow in biblical interpretation, communication skills, and pastoral leadership.

This layered process—both in and out of Preaching Camp—ensures that our preaching is not just the work of one person but the product of shared wisdom, prayer, and collaboration.
